It is of great importance to properly maintain your lock, especially if it is frequently exposed to the elements. Dirt and corrosion can accumulate, particularly during cold and harsh weather. Generally, there are two solutions for lock maintenance: prevention/protection and problem-solving.
If a lock is difficult to open, it can be due to two reasons:
1. The key and the lock have not yet properly adjusted to each other, which often occurs with a new lock
2. There is a build-up of dirt or rust formation in the lock
