Lockout Tagout, abbreviated as LOTO, is a safety procedure used to prevent accidents and injuries when maintaining or repairing machinery or equipment. It is an important part of a safety programme, especially in industrial and engineering environments. 

LOTO involves locking and tagging energy-isolating devices, such as switches, valves or taps, to ensure that they are not accidentally switched on during maintenance or repair work.
